The second year in pictures

So here it is, the second anniversary of this little blog. I had a difficult time stringing together the right photos and words this time around, because it was a bit daunting, to sum up a year of intense personal change. In 12 short months, I applied for graduate school, got accepted, quit my job and began another with the university. And I've realized how wonderful and valuable this style community has been to me in the last couple years with its support and friendship.

I've also gotten more involved with my photography, and have come to appreciate my little town more. It's a wonderful thing to find overlooked places and document them. And, as I've mentioned before about self-portrait photography, there's something rewarding about creating a work that's all your own.

Without more sap or ado, here are some of my favorite style photos of the past year. Thank you all for reading, and for being a part of this with me:

The month of May in outfits

This month has flown by quicker than I wanted it to, but I'm looking forward to the summer ahead. I've got some exciting things planned for June, including a giveaway and more photography posts, so don't touch that dial!

In May, I:

- Watched the earth come up.

- Ruminated on witnessing history.

- Wrote about how to take outfit photos in harsh sunlight (perfect for summer daylight patterns!)

- Listened to my mom.

- Crashed a carnival.

- Copied some of my favorite bloggers' outfits.

- Did some EBEW time.

- Tested out a bridesmaid dress for everyday wear.

- Played with patterns.

- Experimented with locations.

- Got up with the birds, saw cool light.

- Celebrated an anniversary.

- Saw my sister graduate.

The month of April in outfits

I took some of my absolute favorite blog photos this month. I regret having to take a break halfway through, but getting some much-needed rest and time away has made me realize just how much I love doing this little project. I plan to keep up regularly from now on. Thanks for sticking with me.

In April, I:

- Explored an old covered bridge on my own.
- Played with maxi lengths.
- Got reacquainted with an old favorite.
- Had a lost weekend.
- Started a new feature, Friday Finds.
- Jammed out to some REM at a legendary spot.
- Introduced a blog first with some beloved footwear.
- Drove to an abandoned plantation home on my own, and explored more of my town.
- Wore some structured pieces to work.
- Played with pleats.
- Repeated an oldie.

The month of March in outfits

With all the things that happened in March, I'm quite ready to wave this month goodbye. Hello, April! Here are some of my favorites from the past month:

In March, I:

- Got interviewed by the awesome Katy of Modly Chic.

- Got a great short haircut and channeled Jackie Kennedy.

- Went monochromatic.

- Matched my landscape.

- Did a tutorial on accessory photos.

- Contemplated short skirts and reclaiming provocative clothing.

- Participated in Fashionable Academics' "What does a feminist look like?" roundup.

- Eulogized my dearly departed friend, the Canon Powershot.

- Discovered a new camera species.

- Celebrated Jeremiah's birthday, channeling "Black Swan."

- Played with floral short lengths, a la Maria von Trapp.

- Made a hair wreath.

The month of February in outfits

This was a watershed month for me, to be sure. I think I'll look back on February and realize this was when things started to turn around for me creatively (trying new photo projects) and professionally (getting into school).

In February, I:

Pondered the thin line between public and private in blogging.

Turned to Andre 3000 as my sartorial muse. Wore a bowtie in his honor.

Dove  into the blue lagoon.

Found a twin in Sartoriography.

Carried your heart. (I carry it in my heart)

Played Pygmalion with my clothes.

Got caught in the narcissism of taking outfit photos in the woods.

Mulled altering vintage clothing.

Reexamined once-dismissed photography.

Talked about that one time I swam across a lake fully clothed in a Boy Scout uniform.

Hung out on a parking deck, channeling Batman.

Got into graduate school!

Found some similarities between film sartorial inspiration and my own style.

The month of January in outfits

Back to life, back to reality in January as the winter holidays ended. In the last month, I:

- Channeled Laura Ingalls.
- Wore a long blazer and felt like a secret agent.
- Stepped outside my comfort zone, both sartorially and photographically.
- Punked up some prairie duds.
- Got snowed in!
- Shared a thought from the sidewalk, courtesy of Marmee March.
- Created an easy DIY jewelry display.
- Braved the snow and ice to see frozen lakes and tracks.
- Celebrated a birthday.
- Danced around in a 1950s blue confection of a frock.
- Pondered safety in self-photography and shared some tips.
- Earned my stripes.
- Paid tribute to REM's Murmur trestle.
- Got sketched by My Closet in Sketches, and featured as well in Orchids in Buttonholes, and Justice Pirate. (Thank you!)
- Reminisced about what my 13-year-old goth-ish self would think was cool.
- Said nothing.

What are you looking forward to most in February?

2010 in outfits

Jeremiah and I are still out of town visiting family -- a couple of days away has turned into an extended week, and we've really been enjoying our time away from work and responsibility and yes, blogging. I had many plans of sharing some outfits with you, but I've been phoning it in all week and repeating all of my red/white outfits from the 30 for 30 Remix Project. Lazy, lazy ...

I thought since it was New Year's Eve, I thought I'd share some of my favorite outfits of the last year. It's been fun to look back, and I'm incredibly excited for new projects in the next year.

Hope you all have a wonderful night, and see you in 2011! Regular outfit posts will resume on Monday.
