Plaiderpillar

Shirt: Arizona Jeans Co., thrifted;
Pleated skirt: thrifted;
Shoes: gift, from Philippines.
How I've worn the skirt and shirt before: here, here.

I have some news. I left my retail job and started a new one this week -- I'm going to be working for a scribe/transcription service. I'm a little excited, in that it suits my editing/writing capabilities. Though it definitely isn't what I plan on doing forever (I mean, I'm only 23), it'll be a welcome change from the retail world, and will allow me some time to get ready to apply for graduate school again.

Another interesting thing about this job is that it is super-casual in terms of dress code. Because the staff is young and the job requires lots of time sitting in front of the computer, comfort is key and so sweatpants and flip flops are the norm. So on the days that I work there I'll pretty much have full reign of what I can wear, which is so exciting to me.

Anyways, here is what I wore Monday to my training session for the job. When I bought this skirt months ago, I had this exact outfit in mind, but only got around to creating it now. I really like the mix of the ruggedness of the outdoorsy plaid shirt and the sweet, ballerina qualities of the white pleated skirt. Definitely one of my favorite outfits, and it didn't take too much creativity to settle on it, because it felt very me. Maybe I'm still really obsessed about this week's "Mad Men" so that it's constantly what I think about, but for whatever reason, I feel like I look a little bit like schoolteacher Suzanne Farrell in these photos. She wasn't my favorite of love interests on the show (that would be Rachel Menken) but Suzanne did have a youthful style that I definitely admired.

I think I'm finally getting into the groove of my haircut, in that I barely have to do anything to get it to look decent. On the days that I wash it, it's very straight and a little blunt-looking, but on the second day the ends start to look a little curly, which is so close to my childhood texture. I stopped using products (except for a little anti-frizz serum) on it because I kept overdoing the amounts and my hair would end up looking stiff and overdone.

I hope you're all having a great week. The temperatures have dropped a bit since last week, so it's been a nice little reprieve from the eternal summer swelter that we've experienced in Georgia. It's still in the 80s but it feels pretty good -- hopefully a promise of a nice autumn?

  1. you look lovely! you have the best settings for your photos.

    I don't envy you for your job! I'm a social researcher and every now and then I have to transcribe interviews I've done, and I HATE it. I'm always pushing to have it professionally done, but there's never money for that kind of thing any more. Good for you for enjoying it though. I can see the advantage of office based work anyway!

  2. I love how each piece of this look works with the other. Your hair looks great! (And your title is adorable.)

    Fall in Arkansas is no different from Georgia. It's 80-something here today and making me think I need to pull out my sweaters.

  3. Yaay! Congratulations J! This is one step closer to your goal! Btw, my sister pointed out that you wanted to
    be a Policy Analyst! Did I tell I am one?

    Thank you for preparing the guest blog, I am so glad you can do it, I'm excited! I was also thinking you can go ahead with styling the outfits.. I was going to do it simultaneously with you but since I'll be in travel status for 2 weeks, that might be difficult. I could a second take on the remix after you post an outfit, what do you think?

    Xoxo,

    M

  4. It's been in the 90's here for so long that I barely remember what the 90's feel like.

    I love this outfit! That skirt is so flowy and pretty and I love it paired with the plaid.

    And the post title is super, super cute!

  5. I will forever have a soft spot in my heart for plaid, maybe due to my elementary school uniform skirt. Your plaid shirt is adorable and I love the way you paired it with an ultra feminine skirt. Fabulous look! Congrats on your new job, it sounds awesome.

  14. First, congrats on the new job! It sounds like it's a great fit for your talents, and who knows what it can lead to. I'm thrilled for you!

    And I've always loved pleats, but the ones on this skirt are just fantastic. I also love a drop-waisted skirt, and this one creates such a great outfit with the plaid shirt. You look wonderful and very happy!
