Dressing on the side

Dress (as top): Old Navy;
Skirt: American Eagle;
Belt: Ann Taylor Loft;
Shoes: Tayla platforms, Target;
Necklace: Caiem, giveaway gift from lizzypunch;
Carpet saddle purse: vintage, thrifted.
How I've worn the dress: here.

For my first day of the four-day weekend, I decided to wear colors that make me really happy. I could never get away with wearing this to work, so it felt awesome to break away from all black.

I used to be really picky when I was little, especially about my food and my clothes. Vanilla ice cream with no toppings, salad with dressing on the side and sweet'n'sour chicken without the sweet'n'sour sauce. I was like Sally Albright when I ordered my food -- very specific and with everything on the side. Plain Jane Jones in every way when it came to taste. The same with my clothes --- if I had worn this skirt a few summers ago, I would have only worn it with a neutral-colored top.

But lots has changed in those years. Having lived with six women in a dorm suite for a year helped expand my ideas of femininity and style. Living in NYC for a summer made me open to different ways to dress. Reading fashion blogs everyday has spurned my own creativity.

Every now and then, I still crave vanilla ice cream, and chicken without any sauce. But sometimes I go for the root beer on top, the spicy curry on the side as well. And sometimes I wear skirts over my bright orange dresses. I like it better this way.

More photos from today at the farm park:

 Jeremiah looking great with his green shirt and red hair. He really is the most patient photographer.

The field has been mowed over.

The office to the park, which is in this old house. It seems like a very mysterious place. I refer to it as the House that Knows All.

I have no idea how old this car and bicycle are. Probably 90 years old. The bike's wheels are broken and missing rubber in some areas.

Hope you're having a wonderful Saturday!

  1. Yay for variety----I'm a formerly very picky eater, too. I love your layering here (and what a great photoshoot location!).

  3. I like the old car shots! What a fab photo shoot location.

    I'm very proud of you for mixing it up and going with a non-neutral. Isn't it fun to think back and realize how far you've come (in fashion, in food, or in life :-))?

    Keep enjoying your time off, dear!!
