Encounters, familiar and strange

Dress: Donna Ricco, thrifted, vintage;
Scarf: thrifted;
Shoes: from Philippines, gift;
Carpet saddlebag: thrifted, vintage;
Bracelet: Kohl's, gift.
How I've worn the dress before: here.

Sorry I've been MIA the last couple days -- I had a busy weekend of catching up with some old friends around town. It's definitely been one of the perks of moving back to our college town -- some people Jeremiah and I went to school with are still in school or still around, and want to hang out! I wore this Monday afternoon to hang out with my former roommate/bridesmaid Rachel. It was a lot of fun to catch up and see her, and realize that we can now hang out much more than we used to now that we're in the same city again.

So about this outfit. I haven't documented every single time I've worn this, but this vintage Donna Ricco dress has become my summer 2010 dress. I wear it at least once a week, and I've tried making it look different on each outing. It definitely helps that it is in a solid dark color and has a subtle print -- because of that, it's been easy to add brighter accessories because the dress acts as a base. I've been pulling out all of my red accessories lately for my outfits. Red is my favorite color, but I don't wear it as often as I could, so I'm trying to remedy that. It's such a strong color.

I'm sorry if the photo location is getting monotonous, but I really like how it looks at sunset. Something about the way the sky blends in with the water just makes me feel good as a photographer. I have a lot of other photo locations I want to try out in the city, but on a mostly rainy day like Monday was, I was happy with getting any amount of light and doing it in a place with which I'm familiar.

Something funny happened while I wore this outfit. After I took these photos, I was driving home down this windy road, and a Jeep full of college-aged guys started driving at my pace in the next lane. I looked over, and the guys in the back of the car were looking at me, so I immediately snapped my head back to face the road and kept driving. Because much like subway encounters, looking at people in their cars can be so awkward, you know? But after a mile or so, I could still feel them looking at me, so I looked back at them to see what they were doing. Every guy in the car was pantomiming like they were singing to me! Lots of arms in the air and swoon-y looks on their faces. I couldn't hide my amusement so I just started laughing, and I started laughing hard. And then a couple of the guys did a hand salute to me before the car turned into a shopping center. Oh, the antics of college boys on a Monday night.

signature1 by you.

    I love the scarf with this dress! Quite a bit different than the shorts outfit, but really nice this way. I've never worn a scarf tied this way with a dress .hmmm....

  11. Oh don't apologize about such a beautiful locale. You take as many pictures as you like there! And doesn't it feel good to get a little unsolicited attention from strange boys? :) Weird at first, yes. But nice in the end. Especially such grand gestures! You look lovely here. And rip out that red! It looks fabulous on you!
