Meet me on Broad Street

Last week Jeremiah came to visit me in Athens! We've been living apart for about a month at a time since he moved away for work — enough time to establish our own routines in living alone — that it was so nice to see him and go back to our usual haunts. Namely, eating pizza downtown. He was kind enough to snap some outfit photos for me by my favorite red wall. He's usually very camera-shy, but he let me take some photos of him too.

School is good! I'm doing some freelance projects this week, but I'm trying to get back into a normal schedule with blogging and keeping track of outfits. Since I got this skirt a couple weeks ago, I think I've worn it an average of three times a week. It's the perfect color for fall, and I'm loving it with different shades of green.

Look how they shine for you

The last couple weeks have been such a whirlwind of activity with me starting school and J moving for work. I spent three weekends up in NYC this month helping J find a place and get settled in to his (our!) new apartment up there. Now that I'm back down south, I'm readjusting to a routine of school, work, internship and photography. I have so many NYC photos to sift through and I'll be sharing those soon!

I actually took these photos about a month ago, but I've been wearing this same uniform of button-up shirt/shorts for a while so it's still relevant to my wardrobe. Maybe it's some weird mixture of watching "Breaking Bad" and pining for summer camp that's made me wear so much yellow and green this summer.

It blows away with the changing wind

Blouse: Gap; Skirt: Thrift find;
Shoes: Born Crown; Hair wreath: diy.

 I always feel like an extra in Florence and the Machine's "Rabbit Heart" video whenever I wear this hair wreath, but wearing flowers in my hair has always been a signal of summer and youthfulness to me. I wore a floral wreath during our wedding and I think my fascination with hair wreaths will continue even into old age.

How was your week? I had an extended weekend because of the Memorial Day holiday, so I caught up on television (read my film blog here) and friends (like Krista!). Jeremiah and I celebrated our anniversary this week by relaxing with some barbecue food and toasting to another year of graduate school finished.

Eagle wings

 Dress: J. Crew, Plaid shirt: Gap; Green blouse: LEI; Boots, tights: Target;
Belt: from camp years ago; Eagle necklace: vintage; Ring: Gift from mom;
 Bag: thrift find; Coat: H&M, thrifted.

It's a bit eerie going to the park during winter mornings because it's so, so quiet. Occasionally, I'll hear a twig snap or some rustling in the distance and I always fear that I'll turn around and get ambushed by someone's dogs. No egrets or ducks this morning, though I know they've been around this winter.

I celebrated my return to picture-taking by doing one of my favorite things: matching my surroundings. The blouse and accessories are new, and were enough to help reinvigorate this old dress. I've never worn this dress with this yellow plaid blouse because it seemed to be too match-y, but I like them with the buffer of the green blouse.

Off to another week! Mine will be spent writing reports, analyzing  movies (for class), and studying up on Oscar trivia...

Piled higher and deeper

 Dress: J. Crew; Striped blouse: Gap; Shoes: Zigi Soho; Belt: J. Crew, thrifted;
Bracelet: Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, HI; Leather crossbody bag: thrifted.
Photos of me by Jeremiah.

The last week has been an absolute blur of starting graduate school and my assistantship. It's been exciting, and I've been full of nervous energy all week. This semester, I'm taking required research-based classes (i.e. how to do research at the graduate level), so while I won't be too far into my advertising concentration, I'll still be doing a lot (a lot!) of reading.

I've worn some form of this outfit twice already in the last week, and have alternated wearing the blouse over or under the dress. I really like the juxtaposition of the green stripes against the paisley print. My first outfits during the first two days of school were unremarkable because I wore more business-wear for my job on those days. But I wore this the third day of class (and during some much-needed downtown time with Jeremiah later that night), and felt a little more like myself with the print mixing.

What do you wear to feel confident on first days (of school, or work)?

P.S. I'll be picking a winner of the Easy Canvas Prints giveaway tonight.

The sincerest form of flattery

 Tulle dress (as skirt): Gap; Blouse: Old Navy (gift from Marilou);
Shoes: Aersoles; Belt: from this vintage dress;
Bracelet: Kohls; Ring: from Medieval Times (read story here).

I was feeling pretty experimental this weekend, so for some downtown time, I wore a black-and-red combination inspired by two of my favorite blogs: Little Tin Soldier and Atlantic-Pacific. My obsession with this color scheme has been well-documented (especially here, here and here), so it was fun to try something different with my tulle feather-y skirt. I think I could have executed it a little bit differently because the stripes look a little wonky, but overall it was great to think I had another use for this skirt. I had some fun experimenting inside the parking lot this time, and this may be the closest I'll ever get to doing indoor outfit photography.

Are you participating in Everybody, Everywear today? I'll be submitting yesterday's floral dress -- check out more inspiration here!

The Swan Queen dances again

 Black feather dress: Gap, from mom;
Shoes: Aerosoles;
Bag: Lulu Letty giveaway, from Timely Vintage;
Cougar Bracelet: vintage, thrift find, from Finder's Keepers (Lawrenceville).
Photos by Jeremiah.

Yesterday was Jeremiah's birthday, and we celebrated by going downtown for an Indian dinner and visiting over milkshakes with his family. To help honor Jeremiah's big day, I decided to dress up in a dress that looks like it was fashioned from the leftover Rodarte pieces from the movie "Black Swan." It's one part delicate on top, and then it's madness in chiffon-y scraps on the skirt. And it's so fluffy. I danced around in it all night, and occasionally said quotes from the movie ("IT'S MY TURN" is pretty funny if you keep saying it in a guttural, maniacal growl).

Because nothing quite says "Happy birthday" to your spouse than imitating the psychological breakdown of a hallucinating, obsessive ballerina, amirite?

Happy weekend,

To stimulate then activate the left and right brain

 Sweater: Banana Republic, gift from mom; Shirt: Gap;
Hairbow (as bow tie): Treasure Box of Bows; Boots: Target;
Wool pants: J. McLaughlin, salvaged from Aunt P.;
Bracelet: Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, HI.

Andre 3000 was the inspiration for this outfit. He's a fantastic dresser when it comes to bright colors, prints, and of course, bow ties.

From what wells are you drawing sartorial inspiration lately?

Hooray for weekends,

Skirting the issue

Shirt: Gap;
Pleated skirt: thrifted;
Shell necklace: Aloha Stadium,
Honolulu, HI;
Bow (attached to necklace): Treasure Box of Bows;
Moccasins: Minnetonka,gift.

If things look a little different around here, it's because I'm tinkering around with my blog header, so please excuse the changes the next couple of days. It felt like time for a new header, but I'm not quite sure I like this latest version yet. I was going for more of an illustration rather than a photographic header. Either way, I should not be allowed to design things past my bedtime...

If I had to title this outfit, it would probably be 1940s schoolgirl. All I'm really missing is a satchel. This skirt has been a great addition to my closet -- it makes almost any piece instantly more feminine and romantic. I've also really been drawn to yellow/green this fall. They're usually not colors that I turn to (I never really thought they went well with my skin tone, but then again, I'm no expert on cool/warm complementary colors on skin tones), but my outside photo spots have really been inspiring me.

I'm making some last-minute adjustments to my Halloween costume! I don't know if we're going to be going to any parties this weekend, but we may just hand out candy. What are you going as this year?

Another day older

Listening to: "Sixteen Tons," Johnny Cash's cover of it.
White blouse: Target;
Vest: Gap;
Skirt: Michael Michael Kors;
Shoes: Aerosoles.

Here's a quick snap at what I wore to work the other day. The Aerosoles didn't do too bad after an eight-hour shift. I liked it a little because I felt a little studious-looking in it, and I was comfortable, but to be honest, I really hated not having enough color in my outfit that day. Please ignore the bleary-eyed look on my face -- I was still in the middle of waking up.

I'm still trying to navigate exactly what I can wear to work. My boss just said "Wear all black," but looking around the store, there are so many variations of that, with people throwing in color wherever they feel like (sweaters, shoes, etc). I'm thinking my managers are probably more conservative about the dress code than other areas of the store, so I'm going to find out soon exactly what I can get away with.

On another note, it's Friday. Usually that would mean the end of the workweek for most, but today is actually my "Tuesday" if that makes sense. My next days off are on Tuesday and Wednesday, and I seriously cannot wait for them.

So, lovelies, I hope you have a wonderful weekend! And I'm hoping mine flies right by. :)
