Muscle memory

I've been in New York for the last three weekends for job and research stuff, but now that my media research project is over, I have much more free time! I'm looking forward to enjoying my last month in town before I move up North.

So I've been resorting to the same uniform of sorts for the last couple weeks -- dress, sweater, tights, and out the door. I haven't really worn my brooches in the last year or so, but I've been revisiting them as kind of "good luck" talismans I wear throughout the day. I bought this leaf a few years ago before I graduated from my undergrad years -- it seems appropriate now to rewear it while my life is in transition!

It's been very cold down here that my tripod has been freezing in place. I'm so happy to play around with my photography more now that my time is more open.

The autumnal sun

So these photos were taken a couple weeks ago, just before the cold front and the time change. the leaves are at their peak right now, so it's weird to look at these photos and only see hints of orange and yellow. October to mid-November is my favorite time of year because it's perfect for photography. The weather's temperate, the foliage is colorful, and the lighting just works out well.

I wore this outfit quite a few times in October — once during an informal class presentation and a few times during hanging out with friends. I've had the scarf for a few years now but never seem to remember to wear it during autumn.

School continues to stay busy, but I am having fun with my friends.  In the last week we've been to a costume parade, watched all the Halloween episodes of "Community," dissected the cinematography of "No Country for Old Men," and ate a ton of candy and pizza rolls together.

Eagle wings

 Dress: J. Crew, Plaid shirt: Gap; Green blouse: LEI; Boots, tights: Target;
Belt: from camp years ago; Eagle necklace: vintage; Ring: Gift from mom;
 Bag: thrift find; Coat: H&M, thrifted.

It's a bit eerie going to the park during winter mornings because it's so, so quiet. Occasionally, I'll hear a twig snap or some rustling in the distance and I always fear that I'll turn around and get ambushed by someone's dogs. No egrets or ducks this morning, though I know they've been around this winter.

I celebrated my return to picture-taking by doing one of my favorite things: matching my surroundings. The blouse and accessories are new, and were enough to help reinvigorate this old dress. I've never worn this dress with this yellow plaid blouse because it seemed to be too match-y, but I like them with the buffer of the green blouse.

Off to another week! Mine will be spent writing reports, analyzing  movies (for class), and studying up on Oscar trivia...

My own little Walden Pond

 Dress: Spense; Shoes Minnetonka; Blouse: Chaps;
 Scarf: H&M; Bracelet: from Destin, gift.

In the last couple days, I've spent more time in front of statistical software and spreadsheets than I have ever done in my life. Any chance outside and away from a computer is a welcome reprieve.

I'll be heading out of town soon for the holidays, and I'll be missing my dock. I've come to this spot so many times in the last year, it's hard to believe that I don't own this part of the park -- I suppose I've had such a sentimental attachment to the place that I've claimed ownership in my mind. I know that when I come back, most of the leaves will be gone, and winter's hush will soon take over...

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Whatever path leads you here

Dress: Talbots, thrifted; Scarf: H&M; Tiger pin: thrifted, vintage;
Sandals: Miss Trish of Capri, Target; Belt: Fossil.

Now that the university campus nearby is nearly deserted for the summer, it's been easier to meander on the paths and take photos without running into a lot of foot traffic. It's incredibly peaceful and beautiful, but after 20 minutes or so, the 100-degree-plus heat starts to kick in and I begin to look and feel more disheveled. I'm going to have to start going earlier in the day, but I'm predicting my outfits are going to get simpler.

This dress was a summer favorite last year for its gingham pattern and pockets. I've been relying heavily on scarves lately because my office has the A/C all the way turned up and it's the only way to get through work without turning into an Eskimo. This particular scarf is one of my favorites -- I picked it up one summer in New York and it's almost always packed in my travel bag whenever I leave town because I seriously love the color pattern of it.

What are you wearing during these hot humid days? Do you have a foolproof summer office outfit formula?

Like a southbound train

Shirt: Arizona Jeans Co; Shorts: American Eagle; Bag: H&M; Sandals: Teva.

This might be the most laidback outfit I've worn in awhile, but Saturday I really wanted to be casual when I took a walk by myself near the railroad tracks to shoot photos. These tracks are pretty close to campus, and I've actually only seen a train go by once the entire time I was in school. Right before I got there, I heard the blasts of a train whistle as it whizzed by East Campus. Ever since I saw the Final Destination movies when I was younger, I've had a fear of getting trapped on railroad tracks, so I was pretty glad about my timing. Sometimes the train ends up parking on the tracks for awhile, which makes it difficult to take photos in that location.

This might very well be the blog debut of my Teva sandals! They were such a mainstay to my high school wardrobe because I spent a lot of time outdoors as a teen during my co-ed Scout days. They've lasted me seven years and several dozen mountain hikes and counting.

I spent some time this weekend exploring my town. The weather is wonderful, the lighting is fantastic during the peak hours and I'm just ready for new landscapes. I suppose it's like mind exercise -- some people do crossword puzzles or Sudoku, and I spend my time scheming up photoshoot combinations. I'll be sharing those finds later today ...

The lost weekend

Egads, I have a lot of catching up to do! So you're going to get two outfits in one post so I can get back up to speed on the blog.

 Dress: R&K Apparel; Jacket: Aeropostale; Shoes: Zigi Soho.

I wore this at some point last week after a very frustrating morning with my camera (I forgot to charge my battery and guess what happened when I turned it on?), so looking at these photos makes me a little exhausted. I've really been enjoying wearing my grey jacket with my floral dresses, but now the weather has turned and jackets are almost no longer necessary. Hello, early summer!

 Dress: Liz Claiborne, vintage, thrifted; Sandals: Bongo, thrifted;
Bag: H&M; Belt: BR, gift from ML.

 Photos by Jeremiah.

My sister came to town for part of her spring break, and so Jeremiah and I took the opportunity to show her some of the best parts of Athens: the Grill, Weaver D's (it was the 25th anniversary of this awesome soul food establishment), vintage shopping, and then some movie-watching at night (mainly "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Swedish series). I've really been cherishing my time with her because she'll be going off to college really soon after this summer ...

Tinted realities

Sweater: Faded Glory; Scarf: H&M; Wool blouse: vintage, thrifted;
Wool pants: J. McLaughlin, salvaged from Aunt P.;
Aviators: BR, from Marilou; Boots: Target.

It was so cool to see so many bloggers participate in Everybody, Everywear yesterday in the Breton stripes challenge! So much inspiration in one place, and it was fun to discover some new reads, too.

This was one of those outfits from the weekend that made me feel like James Dean. I'm not sure why I never seem to take photos of my sunglasses, because I wear a pair every time. This pair is a present from Marilou -- she sent me a package full of so many Christmas goodies and gifts that I'm still going through it all, hehe.

I'm about to head out the door to do some work, but stay tuned for a collaboration later today. It involves illustrations and someone named Lauren! Hope that keeps you guessing ... :)

In the shadows of tall buildings

Coat: H&M; Tights: Simply Vera;
Boots: Target; Necklace: Waltham pocket watch.

Thank you so much for your nice comments and messages on my birthday -- they really helped make my day special. It has been a fantastic couple of days, full of good food and family and some shopping. I felt very lucky and grateful through the whole day.

I didn't manage to take any photos the last couple of days, but these are from last week when there was still quite a bit of snow on UGA's campus. I thought it was a great juxtaposition to the photos I had only taken a few days before that.

The last week has been really rough for me and writing. With the snowstorm, my birthday, a longer work schedule and keeping up with grad school stuff, I've been pretty busy. I should be back to my normal posting schedule next week -- and I've got some birthday treats to show you all!

Hope you have a great weekend!
