Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments and kind words of support. You have no idea how much they mean to us and it was incredible reading through them -- it felt like receiving a group hug. We may have been blogging for a short while, but the friends and bloggers we've made are really cherished and make this community so wonderful.
So, thank you. All of you.

The next couple of days this week will be spent tying up loose ends and spending time with family, but I definitely plan on posting as regularly as I can. I also do have quite a bit to look forward to this week -- Tuesday is my 23rd birthday, and I plan on, well, perking up a bit and enjoying it. Plus, I'm pretty sure I'm going to spend at least part of the night at trivia and since we won first place this week, we'll be eating free Taco Mac food on birthday! It really is the little things, eh?

No outfit photos today. However. I've been thinking a lot about Madeleine Albright's brooch collection (you can read my thoughts on it here) and how I really need to step up my wearing of them:

Brooches from Nikki (and in case you're wondering,
the background is stationery from a designer named Vivian Clarke -- so pretty!)

Leaf, turtle: vintage store in Lawrenceville. Horse: formerly Nikki's.

From Goodwill. I used to sail during high school
so I am a sucker for anything nautical themed.

Thrifted. It's missing a little bead but it's still loved.

I've collected quite a bit over the last couple years but never seem to find a way to incorporate them into my outfits enough. I think part of it is because I'm paranoid I'll rip up my nice blouses and dresses with teeny holes, but I'm trying to find new ways to wear them.

What kinds of jewelry do you collect and why? And if you wear brooches, do you wear them in other ways (besides the lapel look)? I'd love any new ideas for wearing them.

  1. You have a great collection! I don't have any brooches, but I'd try adding it to a scarf, hat, or on a necklace!

  2. I love ALL of these! :) I go through phases...right now I'm very into necklaces, mostly long ones. Still need to work on establishing any sort of collection, though. Someday!

  4. I collect vintage jewelry and brooches are my favorite. Try bunching together a few necklaces that coordinate with each other and pin them together with a brooch so it becomes part of the necklace.

  5. I love brooches and keep telling myself I need to get myself a few. Maybe 2010 will be the year to do it. :)

  6. I love brooches, too. I have some from when I was really really young, but seeing yours makes me want to start collecting a few again. They bring such interest to an outfit. I LOVE the sailboat! I think it's my favorite. Although that turtle is darling, too.

Hope you're having a good day!
