Oh I'm bound to go where there ain't no snow

Listening to: "In the Big Rock Candy Mountains," from the
"O, Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack.

Purple blouse, Delia's;
Dress (worn as skirt), J. Crew;
Tights, Target;
Booties, Nine West, gift;
Monsho the turtle pin, thrifted;
Necklace (as bracelet), Aloha Stadium Swapmeet, Honolulu, HI;
Ring: Engagement ring;
Trenchcoat: Banana Republic.

I decided to play with color yesterday, but I'm not entirely sold on this particular palette. I wanted to style this J. Crew dress somehow but since I bought it, it's been hard for me to figure out because I usually don't wear pastels and I feel like it needs another pop of color and not a neutral. Still it was fun to wear because it felt cheerful.
About the accessories: you might be wondering why I am wearing my engagement ring on my right hand, middle finger. I haven't gotten it resized yet and right now it only fits that finger. I've gotten so used to it being there that I kind of just shrug it off anytime someone makes a mention of it. The necklace as bracelet brings back great memories of being in Hawaii on our honeymoon and traveling to the different booths at the Stadium marketplace. My turtle pin is my attempt to wear more brooches, and since I've tried to name all my animal jewelry, his name is Monsho.

I hope to experiment a little more with color and patterns this year. In what ways have you expanded your style, and what trends or ideas are you interested in trying?

  1. i am really loving your hair in these pictures! i'm loving the pattern and the colors in the dress, too. i bet a rich, dark teal blouse or cardigan would pop wonderfully off of the yellow and the green. sorta monochromatic.

    and i am totally with you wearing my engagement ring on other fingers... when i wear it on my left ring finger i have to wear it behind the band and it STILL slips and slides and turns all around. my wedding band is starting to get a teeny bit loose with a few pounds coming off so i'm just biding my time until it's worth it to shell out the bucks to resize. (lately i just don't wear it at all because i'm so afraid of losing it!)

  2. I actually think you did a great job combining this... yellow and purple always scares me, but this works- and not in an Easter way. I like the orange pop of the pin.

    Oh, and the shoes are amazing.
