The lure of new lengths

This is an outfit I wore last week to work, and pretty much typifies my go-to work outfit for my casual environment. I found this dress months ago during a trip to my favorite Salvation Army. It's a spaghetti-strap number and not usually the length or design I am often attracted to, but I really liked the pattern and color of it. It's got a lot of ruffles, which I dressed down with my casual jacket.

There have been more people out at my favorite photo locations. It's always amusing to see how things are re-arranged on the dock before I get there in the evenings -- sometimes the picnic table is moved to one end or the other, or someone leaves behind an item or two. An entire box of lures was left behind on the dock, so I borrowed a few to take photos.

I have to admit, I'm in a bit of a style rut lately. The weather fluctuations have messed with me a little bit, and it's getting so warm that pretty soon jackets and sweaters will just be superfluous. I'm trying to figure out how to keep going before it gets too hot and all I'll wear are just dresses with very little variety.

How are you staying sartorially creative as the seasons change?

Inspiration: Superheroes

I'm no Superman -- (although an aspiring Batman is another story) -- but I have been finding a lot of sartorial cues from comic book heroes lately, with their penchant for primary colors and bold accessories. Below, a collection of items I own that make me want to channel my inner heroine:

 Above is my Wonder Woman notebook, a small birthday present from Jeremiah. I jot down a lot of blog ideas in it. I love the primary colors used in it, and it makes me want to wear bright gold jewelry and own a lasso of truth. I'm not the only one drawing inspiration from Wonder Woman this spring -- MAC is releasing a line of makeup based around the superheroine.

An old Mickey Mouse watch that I used to wear during summer camp. The wristband is made to look like a paved road.

I like keeping old letters in my Spidey lunchbox.  I'd definitely should actually carry this for lunch sometime.

And finally, a new animal mask as a teaser for an upcoming photoshoot.

Covered bridges over country waters

This Sunday while Jeremiah caught up on schoolwork, I decided to take a solo road trip to Watson Mill Bridge park. I'd been itching to get away with the nice weather, and for new photogenic subjects.

 The park is home to the longest covered bridge in the state, and one of the oldest, clocking in at 126 years old. The drive to the park was well worth the time, and I meandered on some country roads full of farms, old plantation-style homes, and decaying barns (and I seriously saw a cow walking alongside the road I drove on!). I had so much fun at the park -- the covered bridge goes over a little mini-waterfall, and I had fun driving through the old structure (it creaks so much and it's really dark in there).

I wore one of my other DIY-ed floral wreaths, and it matched perfectly with my floral dress.  I spent some time on the rocks, soaking up the sun and letting my tripod perform new stunts near the falls. I couldn't resist the photo opportunities for all of my accessories with a stunning backdrop like that!

Remixed: green silk dress

This Spenser Jeremy vintage dress was a thrift store dream: Silk, a pretty shade of green, and only set me back about $3. With its column design and side-tie, it's become a closet favorite of mine. I've liked pairing it with yellows and blues, and I'm looking forward to wearing it to some weddings this summer. 

The month of March in outfits

With all the things that happened in March, I'm quite ready to wave this month goodbye. Hello, April! Here are some of my favorites from the past month:
