Strawberry lemonade

 Dress: Arlene Airess, vintage; Sweater: Old Navy;
Headband: BR, gift from Marilou
Sandals: Miss Trish of Capri, Target; Bag: thrifted.

I've been breaking out my sweater collection even though the thermometer says it's still 100 degrees out, and even though I'm sure I could fry eggs on the sidewalk (I tried that when I was a kid, and it totally just left gooey yolk on the sidewalk). My classrooms have been really chilly lately, so it's been imperative to bring a  few layers everyday. I really like this combination, because it reminds me of my favorite summer treats, frozen strawberries and lemonade.

I think I've found a new-but-somewhat-vain technique to keep me awake for late study nights: curling my hair. For some reason, rolling my strands into pillow rollers while reading about research methods distracts me from other things I'd rather be doing, like surfing the Internet, and the by-product is nice, full hair in the mornings. Got to love study methods that offer some beauty perks ...

At pleasures slipp'd away

 Dress: Arlene Airess, thrifted, vintage;
Bag, belt: Fossil; Shoes: Zigi Soho.

Why, why repine, my pensive friend,
At pleasures slipp'd away?
Some the stern Fates will never lend,
And all refuse to stay.

I see the rainbow in the sky,
The dew upon the grass,
I see them, and I ask not why
They glimmer or they pass.

With folded arms I linger not
To call them back; 'twere vain;
In this, or in some other spot,
I know they'll shine again.

The back of my eyes hum with things I've never done

 Dress: Arlene Airess, thrifted, vintage; Sunglasses: Vintage, thrifted;
Shoes: Zigi Soho; Belt: Ann Taylor Loft.
Listening to: "Welcome Home," Radical Face.

Just a weekend outfit from Saturday. Jeremiah and I went to a local store showcase, and it was a great time. There were a lot of local vintage stores who had some booths set up, so it was like walking around downtown Athens all in one room. We were there to support Jeremiah's sister, whose sorority was throwing the event to help benefit a cancer charity.

I got a lot of compliments on this dress, which was really cool to hear. I don't have very many friends in real life who are really into vintage, so it's always fun to meet individuals who understand and get into the process of finding old things and re-purposing them. This is one of those dresses that I would have been too scared to wear two years ago while I was in college because of its prairie qualities, and now I wear it all the time. It makes me wonder just how much my style will change when I finally start my grad school program in the fall...

In other news, I'm working on a couple new features that will show up on the blog this month, and one of them will debut tomorrow!

Pay no attention to that girl behind the tripod

 Dress: Arlene Airess, thrifted, vintage;
Skeleton key necklace: vintage, from Minx;
Shoes: Zigi Soho; Jacket: Express, thrifted.

This week got significantly better when :

a) I got my car back after some repairs (turns out it was a battery issue);
b) and the weather forecast for the rest of the week calls for sunny skies and 60-plus degree weather. Yes! Photography is going to be so much fun this week.

One of the negatives to nice weather is that a lot of my photography locations are no longer so private. Lots of people are out enjoying the nice weather that it's hard to take landscape and style shots discreetly. I was in the woods on a trail when I took these photos, and I was spotted by two bicyclists, as well as a father and a young son. All of the instances were several yards away, so I think they were more startled and curious as to what I was up to. I think sometimes people are a little creeped out, because they might see the tripod and think I want to take photos of them like a covert secret agent or something. No, just enjoying some scenery and a good dose of narcissism over here, thank you! (I don't really say that).

It's all just a bit embarrassing, but I guess I'll have to change the times of day when I go. Or start wearing a superhero mask when I do, so that my tripod isn't what they're focusing on ...

January's tides call for home

 Dress: Arlene Airess, thrifted; Tights: Target;
Jacket: Aeropostale; Pocket watch: Waltham.

These photos were taken before Snowmageddon (Snowpocalypse? Ehh), so no fluffy precipitation here. Because of the cold weather and the holidays, this past weekend was the first time I've been able to go take photos in the morning at my beach. As much I might experiment and try new locations, one of the reasons I always come back to this spot is because of the reflections in the lake. I haven't worn my Arlene Airess prairie dress since fall, and it felt like time to try again by toughening it up with my anorak and my lace-up boots.

How are you styling your warmer-season clothes in winter weather?

Some ways I've remixed this dress before:

Children of the corn

Dress: vintage, Arlene Airess, thrifted;
Boots: Target;
Bag: H&M;
Belt: Ann Taylor Loft.

Okay, so my title has nothing to do with the horror movie, but hey, it's my favorite month, and I'm paying homage to it by keeping most of my titles autumn/Halloween-related.

To celebrate October (and the nice weekend weather),  Jeremiah and I spent Sunday at the flea market and Washington Farms. Didn't get any photos of the flea market (though I'll post our finds soon!), but we did have a great time at the farm. I had never been to a corn maze before, and hadn't been to a pumpkin patch since I was a toddler, so it was really exciting for me. We had so much in all the country cheesiness, from the corn maze to the pumpkin patch, to the pumpkin slingshot, pig races and petting zoo.

Trying out the pumpkin slingshot. Jeremiah hit the target and won a free snack.

 The tunnel was a funhouse that was dark inside and had a rotating tunnel that made the room look like it was moving around you. Pretty fun stuff.

How was your weekend?
