And I'll meet you at the station

Dress: Donna Ricco, thrifted;
Belt: J. Crew, thrifted;
Shoes: Aerosoles;
Bag: Louis Vuitton, gift.
Photos by Jeremiah.
Listening to: "Last Train to Clarksville,"
The Monkees.

It's been a fun but busy few days. Jeremiah and I finally got around to taking outfit photos at one of my favorite locations in Athens, the railroad tracks. My old dorm on the east side of campus is right by these tracks, and in the four years I lived here during college, I think I've only seen a train go by on them once. Still, it's a very picturesque place,and one that's often frequented by photographers and fraternity boys (the new fraternity house lane is right by them now).

I wore this outfit to lunch at Weaver D's, which is a Southern soul food place that's basically an institution in this town. My research seminar professor took my small class out to lunch at this place several years ago, and I've been obsessed ever since. On this trip I chose the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and corn bread, and it's always piled really high. Food coma-inducing, but delicious. The motto of Weaver D's is "Automatic for the People," and it's a motto that's so ingrained in this town, R.E.M. named one of their albums after it.

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend. My plans? More moving and unpacking. It's all coming together, and I can't wait to start decorating.

Eight questions

Hey everyone, Happy Friday! Thanks for all the feedback about my new haircut. I'm really excited to try new ways to style it.

I'm currently camped out on a couch here at the new apartment, dwarfed by a few piles of unpacked clothes and sheets. It's been a busy couple days, with very few photo-worthy outfits in between. Needless to say, I am so happy to finally have Internet here, so I'll be catching up on my blogroll this weekend!

I was recently tagged by Lisa of Respect the Shoes to answer some fun getting-to-know-you questions, so while I don't have outfit photos, at least you'll get a crack at my psyche. Here goes:

  1. If you could be any heroine, who would you pick and why? What a tough beginning question. I'd probably pick Clara Barton, the founder of the Red Cross, because she has helped save so many lives throughout history.
  2. What is your favorite article of clothing and why? I wear dresses all the time, because they are one item and they encompass an entire outfit. One, and done. Plus there are so many different styles out there that they often spur my creativity.
  3. What is one of the proudest moments of your life? I have a few, but the one that really stands out is when I found out I got accepted to a prestigious internship my junior year of college. When I got the email explaining that I had been accepted, I jumped up and down in my dorm room. It had only been a few months after my father died, and so not only was I excited about living in NYC and getting a jump on my professional experience, but I was also happy to think that perhaps, somewhere, my dad was proud of me, too. I cried of happiness at dinner that night.
  4. Name your favorite food. I order chicken tenders a lot when I go to restaurants, so I think I've become a poultry connoisseur of sorts.
  5. Who is your favorite Real Housewife from the entire series? I've never really watched the entire series, but I did catch the Atlanta show, and I thought NeNe was a funny one.
  6. What were you doing one hour ago? Sleeping and dreaming about lunchtime. (We're going to Weaver D's today, which is an Athens institution)
  7. Frozen yogurt or ice cream? Ice cream all the way. My favorite flavors, in order: Peppermint, Mint Chocolate Chip, Butter Pecan, Vanilla (for root beer floats)...
  8. What's your favorite cheesy joke? What do you get when you cross an elephant and a rhino? ... Elephino (Hell if I know).

If you wish to play along, answer some of these questions in the comments below!

Yay for weekends,

Cut the suspense

Dress: In Roads;
Shoes: gift, from Philippines;
Belt: Ann Taylor Loft;
Bag: Fossil, thrifted.
How I've worn the dress: here.

Here's my first attempt at styling my new haircut! I'm pretty excited about it. It's very similar to my last cut, with a few tweaks: the bangs are a bit shorter and more angled, I have more layers added around the base of the hair and I didn't take as much off as last time (1.5 inches versus 8). I'm really happy about it, and I think, depending on how experimental I'm feeling in a month or two, I might get more straight-down bangs instead of sideswept ones.

I wore this outfit Tuesday afternoon to the farm park. I spent a lot of time taking nature photos because this shoot maybe one of my last ones for awhile. Just one of my favorite dresses in a very pretty setting.

So much is going on with moving. We finally got all our big furniture in the new place, but because our Internet hasn't been set up just yet, we're camping out in the old place (haha, home is where the Internet/last roll of toilet paper is). I can't wait until tomorrow to set up everything and get started with decorating and organizing, which is my favorite part.

Hope you all have a great Thursday!

Moving day!

Dress: Ariella;
Sweater: Forever 21, borrowed from Nik;
Belt: Ann Taylor Loft;
Bag: Fossil, thrifted;
Shoes: from Philippines, gift;
Headband: borrowed from Nik.

This post is going up really quick because today's moving day, and I really should be getting ready to haul heavy furniture!

So this outfit was really out of necessity. I basically packed away all my clothes Sunday night in the anticipation of moving things Monday, and when that didn't happen right away, I had to just pull out the first clean clothes I could find out of the bags. I rather like the swirls of the sweater against the lace of the purple dress.

Taking these photos was a bit awkward. I went in the morning in the hopes that it would be cooler in the day, and apparently that's when everyone goes to the farm park. For whatever reason, my tripod and my lack of athletic wear seemed to attract more attention than usual. There were several people who gave me weird looks when I set up my tripod, and one in particular who watched me for several minutes with her toddler in tow. I had to pretend to be really interested in taking a landscape shot for several minutes, and when I noticed she wasn't leaving her spot and was still staring at me, I moved downhill so I could take the photos in privacy. Oh, well. I hope my picture-taking provided some amusement and perhaps a bit of mystery to the onlookers.
Hope you enjoy these last photos of my long, long hair...because I got a haircut! I usually put off haircuts as long as possible, but it got to the point that my hair was getting too straggly for daily styling, and it was going to be the last time for awhile that I'd get to go to my regular salon. Photos of the cut in my next outfit post!

Happy Wednesday,
