We meet again, O Muse

For longtime readers of this blog, this place may look very familiar -- I got to revisit my beloved farm park over the weekend. My dear friends Sunira and Jeremy visit there often, so we went on a photo adventure together through the park. They were kind enough to show me some of their favorite spots -- many of which I had never seen before because I had never ventured that far back into the woods. I'll be sharing some of Sunira's photos later this week -- she did a wonderful job and it was certainly an education just watching her work her photography skills.

The above photos are ones I took before we journeyed into the woods. This farm park is what really sparked my self-photography, and the landscapes often inspired me to get more creative with my camera. It was comforting to be back in a place that I used to be so familiar with, and I was glad that the lighting worked out. The dress is on loan from my sister -- I'm still glad that I can raid her closet every once in a while.

So I really, really wanted to wear this outfit during the 30 for 30, but I didn't have many opportunities to try it out in my everyday life -- no holiday parties or anything going on over here yet. So I went ahead and just wore it for a pizza outing downtown with Jeremiah. It ended up being perfect because a) it was graduation day at UGA, and I was a representin' alumna in my school colors and b) there were so many graduates outside taking photos of themselves in cap and gown, that Jeremiah and I didn't look bonkers taking my outfit photos at random spots. Win, win.

At first glance, it looks like there is too much going on with this outfit and you'd think the band jacket and the sequin top would compete for attention. Instead, I think they complement each other because they're both working with the same neutral color (black), and the sequins don't overwhelm the costume characteristics of the band jacket. 

Now, now if I could just find a traveling disco band, my life would be complete.

Just a quick post before we have some company over for the basketball game craziness begins.

The weather has been absolutely glorious the last couple of days, and I wish I could spend more time outside.

About the outfit. I really like how it turned out because I love red/white/anything remotely nautical. This dress is very special -- I became engaged while wearing it.

 I suppose you'd like to know the back story, so let's pretend we're in a play, shall we?

Ent. Scene: Sept. 2008, Senior year of college. Jeremiah's bedroom. Jeremiah is taking a nap on his bed. JoAnn walks into the room and sees the sleeping figure of her boyfriend.

JoAnn: Hey J, I'm about to leave for my interview [Ed. note: this was back when I worked at my college newspaper]. Can I get on your computer for a couple minutes?

Jeremiah: (still half-asleep) Ennnh.

JoAnn: Okay. 

                       Gets on the computer and wiggles the mouse. The timed-out browser window reveals itself, which just happens to be on a site that features diamond rings. Engagement rings.

 (Totally and utterly shocked) WHAT IS THIS? WHAT IS THIS?

Jeremiah: (Waking up from nap, looks at the computer) Ohhhh, crap. Oh, crap. You weren't supposed to see that. (Hides under his blanket in mortification)

(Regains composure)

So, will you marry me?

And of course, I said yes. Our engagement lasted eight months, and we were married in May of last year. We thought about embellishing our engagement story to sound more thought-out and planned. Like, Jeremiah could've proposed to me by spelling my name in flowers on the side of mountain, while doves flew out, unicorns pranced in the meadows and confetti rained down upon us. That would have been cool. But our story fits our laid-back personalities, and it's pretty funny to me even today because I like to tease Jeremiah about it a little now that we're married.

Sometimes an ordinary day just needs a pretty dress.  I was feeling adventurous with the pink tights, so I paired it with the matching blue dress that I love so much because of its ruffles. I added the heart necklace I won from hazel & harlow's Valentine's Day giveaway and felt romantic all day. Since the weather was nice, we decided to do the daily photos at the historic courtyard. It's a picturesque place and many homecoming, prom and engagement photos are taken here in the warmer seasons.

On another note, I've been obsessed with the Olympics pairs figure skating competition for the last couple of days -- I haven't gotten into it so much since the Kerrigan/Yamaguchi days. I wish I could gracefully move on ice. I've been doing little ballerina-esque moves around the house all day, pretending I'm wearing little skates. Hehe.
