Come as you are

Not much to say except that I'm on vacation! I took these photos of a grunge-y outfit last week just as it started to get really chilly in Georgia. Hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving week -- I'll be catching up on outfit photos and homework.

Grey dawn breaking

Dress: Liz Roberts, thrifted; Belt: Loft; Shoes: Clarks;
Skeleton key necklace: vintage, from Minx; Bag: thrifted.

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,

And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a gray mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way, where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over..."

- John Masefield, "Sea Fever"

P.S. I've been styling my hair lately with this curly-hair tutorial . The updo above is the "before" stage, and I really like wearing it that way during the day.

The dog days are gone

 Dress: Liz Roberts, vintage; Shoes: Zigi Soho; Scarf: gift; Sunglasses: BR, from Marilou.

I don't really consider myself an indoor or blank wall photographer, like many style bloggers are, because both settings tend to utterly befuddle me. There's a reason why you won't see very many photos of blank walls or other apartment interiors here:  Artificial lighting or confined spaces are hard for me to manipulate into decent photos. But today, I really just wanted to do something very simple outside, and challenged myself to stay in just one spot and strip it down to just a couple points of view, just like I might for a future indoor post. As my usual photo spots are getting more and more occupied with the warm weather, I have been reconsidering places that I usually skip for photos because of convenience and solitude. It's not the end of landscape photos, but maybe before summer's end my humble abode will make an appearance here.

I had one of the best weekends in recent memory. One of our close friends V came to stay for the weekend and  Jeremiah and I showed him around Athens, which included going to a 90s-themed bar and walking around the college campus. In addition, we surprised another close friend T at her law school graduation and celebrated with her later that day. T and I became friends during our mock trial  days in high school (in our two competitions together, she was my lawyer, and I was the defendant), and seeing her complete her formal education was like watching a story come full circle.

How was your weekend? I have 10 million photos to wade through from the last few days that I can't wait to share with you.
